Minneapolis is home to seven lush green golf courses. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is responsible for the maintenance and operation of these courses which include both 18-hole and 9-hole courses. The Columbia Golf Club is located at 3300 Central Avenue NE and offers much more than just golfing, including archery, biking paths, concessions, cross-country skiing and more. If you enjoy walking to create a healthier you or just to save money on gas, the Minneapolis Pedestrian Program is designed with you in mind. More than 90 percent of streets in the city have sidewalks on either side, amounting to about 1,800 of sidewalk throughout the community. There is even a Sidewalk Inspections Office that makes sure the sidewalks stay in good condition with a 10-year cycle. The Minneapolis community is dedicated to the education and training of its youth to instill a sense of responsibility and encourage success. The Minneapolis Promise is a group of efforts designed to help area students get to college and enjoy the success of their labors. The program includes counseling, quality summer jobs and even financial assistance. Since 2004, the Step-Up Program, which is a division of Minnesota Promise, has helped more than 7,600 students find quality jobs. The majority of those students were minorities and nearly 70 percent of them went on to attend college. The top five employers in the Step-Up Program were Best Buy, U.S. Bank, Ameripise, Thrivent and Target.
